A while back I promised to make a video of my fuel pump setup for Farrar.  Here it is:

Do not have any electronics, like a digital video camera, near the gas tank while it's open....

Why does Steve keep women's hair accessories around the house?

The fuel filter you're using in the tank boot has about a gazillion times finer filtration than the pickup filter that came with your Spectra pump -- you can throw that pickup filter away.

Why not put an elbow on your pump boot filter and screw the pump into it, eliminating that short piece of hose altogether?

Bill.

If you think women's hair accessories are bad, you should see my Pee Wee costume.

I've thought about putting an elbow on the pump boot filter but just haven't gotten around too it yet.  According to my spreadsheet, I have been using this setup since March.  So far it has been holding up fine.

More importantly, did you enjoy seeing the inside of my tank?  Amazingly the tuna can has zero rust.

I've been running my pump canister since June 2004. If you don't fuck them up, they last a very long time.

This is what my Tuna Baffle looked like November 2012 -- 8.41667 years after its original installation:

I took those pictures to prove some pontificator/prevaricator wrong, exactly which one I can't remember.

Hervey's baffles do disintegrate, however. #2508 came with one, and it was at least half gone. Whatever alloy aluminum he is using isn't suitable for submersion. My fuel pump carriers are made from proper aluminum pipe (made to carry liquid), so if you can keep from fucking them up they last a very long time.

Bill.
