Although I am enjoying the email format, there seems to be great interest in an actual forum because of all the modern benefits.  Let it be known that I have purchased a vBulletin license and plan to have the new forum up by the end of the week.  I might even have it online tonight, it just depends on how one of my other projects goes this evening.

What's the big advantage? I thought you could post pictures in Google Groups, too.

Beats me but I've had a hand full of people express interest in DMCToday only to walk away after they found out it was email based.  Maybe, I screwed up by purchasing the software, maybe I didn't.

We shall see what happens.  I will admit that forum software is a lot easier for keeping stuff organized.

I think it's something to do with the post count system and how posts are organized and archived.  Some seem to dislike the email system altogether; it's often cited as the biggest fault of the DML, though I know of a few others.

Definitely a screw up -- I offered you *FREE* forum software. Now I have to buy Brandon a *FIFTH* case of freon.

Keep screwing up and Brandon's garage is going to have so much freon packed in that he won't have room for the car (and you will have to climb on top of the boxes to film it all).

Bill.

Brandon,

I propose a business venture with you.  Lets keep talking smack about Bill.  As long as he keeps getting offended, you will eventually have a house full of freon.  We can either use it to create another hole in the ozone layer or we can sell it and split the money.

Actually his father will start reselling it to recover Brandon's college expenses. Too bad Sam's Club undercut his profit margin.

In all seriousness, Brandon's father is a very pleasant person (mother is too). I might buy them their own freon just for being so nice.

Bill.

How can I get in on the free freon deal? If I can re-sell it, it would help my brake and suspension work get done a lot quicker.

so will the new software integrate into the existing google group users/data or will it be a blank slate 'reboot'?

i dont really know too much about forum software.

I don't think vBulletin will let me merge the existing data to the new forum.  Basically I will have to manually copy as much information as I can.

I will keep everyone posted as things progress.

So any ill advised promises I make on the Google list will not automatically transfer to the new forum? Sweeeeeet.

I'll be sure to start a thread on the new forum called "Free freon for Brandon".

I uploaded a few pics to the Google Groups format in the first post in the '#1798 at Troy, MI, QAC - Courtesy DeLoreanPOGs.com' thread. It looks like it worked OK on my interface anyway.

BTW - You guys rock - I love how jovial and relaxed the atmosphere here is vs the other forum.

Anyone who takes a DeLorean seriously needs to have his or her head examined.

And you are 100% correct -- it *IS* possible to embed photos in Google Groups Messages

Its been a busy day but the new forum is online and ready for basic testing.

http://www.dmctoday.com/forum.php

As you can see I have a lot of work to do on the design, but being that I don't know a single thing about SQL databases, I would say I did a pretty good job of getting it online so quickly.

I'm pretty tired and am headed to bed, but the forum is up if anyone wants to sign up.

Well this sucks.  Last night the forum was working, but since I hadn't customized it yet, I decided to use domain forwarding to direct traffic to the old site.  I setup the forwarding last night and evidently things went offline when it kicked in.

I just turned off forwarding a few minutes ago.  Hopefully at least vBulletin will be back up once the forwarding is no longer in effect.  It can sometimes take a few hours for domain changes to replicate across those internets.

Do you know anything about customizing vBulletin?   Lol

I'll gladly hand over the passwords if you do.  Incidentally, I'll be sure to make your account an admin when I'm back at a computer.

Alright, I just joined and it appears to be a very standard layout; seems easy enough to figure out.

At the risk of overstepping my bounds, I'd be happy to help moderate and set up sections of the forum for easy navigation.

There is no Back to the Future section.

I refuse to join an online forum that doesn't have a Back to the Future section.

"Back to the Future"?

Where we're going, we don't need "Back to the Future."

Image Verification thingee isn't displaying on either Firefox or MS IE, thus it's not allowing me to register.

David, I just made you an administrator a few minutes ago.  Your account should have super duper priveledges.  Chad, I will do the same for you in a few minutes.  I'm at work today and really need some help organizing the thing to look as fancy as the other forum.

Some basic cleanup I want to do is this:

1. Replace the vBulletin logo in the top left corner with DMCToday.
2. Remove the Whats New, Articles, and Blogs tabs.  Have the forum come up directly instead of the whats new tab as it is currently doing.
4. Create a similar layout of categories to the other forum.  Lets make it look as familiar as possible so people don't have to learn all over again.

Currently I have DMCToday set to go straight to the old welcome page.  vBulletin has to be accessed directly from http://www.dmctoday.com/forum.php

I would like to dmctoday on the current welcome page until the forum is presentable.

I'm not sure if you guys will need ftp rights but if you do let me know.  I will get some accounts made for you guys if needed.

Thanks for the help.

There could be a compatibility issue with the version of vBulletin I am currently running.  I am having issues as well.  Thankfully, the forum is still somewhat private.

My issue right now is that I can only logon to it using my mobile phone.  My computer at work won't let me sign on at all.  The forum basically rejects my password, whether using my stevedmc account (non admin) or the administrator account.

When I get home tonight I will downgrade the forum from v4.2 to v4.1 and see what happens.  This thing is obviously still in the design phases for me.  If I didn't have a job, it would have been up and running hours ago.  Hopefully everything will be functional before the end of this week.

MyBB (freeware forum software) works fine on both desktops/laptops and mobile devices via TapaTalk....

I'm on a laptop that connects via a dsl connection, if that helps at all.

I'd offer to help with the forum, but I admittedly suck at software - I'm more of hardware guy.

Something must be wrong with my computer at work because the vBulletin forum works fine on both IE and Firefox on my home computer.  I'm going to leave the current version in place and start working on making it look like a decent forum.

Anyway, I have removed the image verification process and have changed it to a simple question.  You should be able to sign up without any problems and it will even be on Tapatalk soon.
