I almost feel bad for making this announcement but the DMCToday forum is now online.  I've setup all sorts of familiar categories and as far as I can tell the thing is good to go with the exception of tapatalk.

Everyone seems to be enjoying the email format but if anyone wants to sign up for the forum just go to DMCToday.com

Thanks man.  Frankly, I can't believe how many people have already signed up for it.  It took months for the Google group to reach 30 members.  The DMCToday forum has been public for about 24 hours and it already has 19 members with lots of good conversation already going on.

I've really enjoyed the email format and discussions but it looks like vBulletin is what people wanted afterall.  I had no idea there would be so much traffic on there so quickly.  I may have to add a few more forums to it such as the regional ones and product reviews like on the other site.  Hopefully I don't get sued.  lol

I would prefer to have just one forum, but we can leave this thing open and restrict future members if you guys want.  What do you think?  Should we leave it alone?  Close it to future members?  Or just get rid of it?

I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that the Google Groups email format required one to register with Google in order to join, whereas the vBulletin is its own thing - thus ease of registration and no sharing/hacking of personal info with/by the government and others.

I actually used the Google Groups format like an on-line forum and didn't receive any of the email messages, as I didn't activate them. Personally speaking, the less emails I have to deal with, the better for me!

Unlike the opinion of others, I don't want a clone of Talk. I think if Today focused it's efforts on organization more than anything else, it would offer something that Talk doesn't. After all, how many times have people posted something on Talk only to be yelled at by others that 6 other threads dealing with the same subject already exist, even though you thought you took great care in searching through the existing threads? One way to do this is by sticky'ing 'Official' threads on common topics. One thing you don't want to do though is to break down the categories too specifically, like DMCHelp did. Finding the right balance might be tough, but I think it would guarantee the long term success of Today. Also, the more personable, relaxed, and fun we can make it, the better - that's where you and Bill really shine!

Like I said before, if anyone from Talk gives you shit or threatens legal action, I can help - just let me know.

As far as what to do with the Google Groups format - I honestly don't have an opinion one way or the other. As you created it, I think you should do whatever you feel is appropriate.
