Follow closely
Lord, we don’t know where you are going, how do we know that way? —John 14: 5
As I followed Li Bao in the mountains of central China, along the top of the low stone wall built into the mountainside, the sky gradually darkened. This was an experience I never had before. I could only see the nearest step ahead, and I didn't know how steep the slope on my left was. I took a deep breath and followed Li Bao closely. I don't know where we were going and how long it took to bring us to the destiny, but I trust my friends. The situation I was facing was a bit like what Thomas, a disciple of Jesus, often needed assurance. When Jesus told his disciples that He must leave to prepare accommodation for them, He said, "Where do I go, you know; you know that way, too" (John 14: 4). Thomas asked a very rational question: "Lord, we don't know where He is going, how do we know that way?" (V. 5)
Jesus did not eliminate Thomas' doubts and explained to him where he would take them. He just assured his disciples that He was the way. In fact, that is enough.
We also have many questions about the future. No one knows what will happen next because life is full of twists and turns that we cannot foresee. But none of this matters. It is enough to know that Jesus is "the way, the truth, and the life" (v. 6).  Jesus knows what the future holds. He only wants us to follow Him closely.
Heavenly Father, help us to see that Your beloved Son is our way. Let us follow Him closely in the journey of life.

紧紧跟随

主啊，我们不知道祢往哪里去，怎么知道那条路呢？—约翰福音14章5节

我跟着李宝在中国中部山区，沿着砌入山腰的矮石墙顶上前进时，天色渐渐暗了下来。这是我前所未有的经验，往前只看得见最近的一个阶梯，也无从得知左侧的山坡究竟有多陡峭。我深深吸了一口气，紧紧跟随李宝身后。我不知道我们要去哪里，也不知道还要走多久，但我信任我的朋友。我所面对的情况，有点像多马这位时常需要保证的门徒那样。当耶稣告诉众门徒，祂必须先离开去为他们准备住处，并且说：“我往哪里去，你们知道；那条路，你们也知道”（约翰福音14章4节）。多马就问了一个很理性的问题：“主啊，我们不知道祢往哪里去，怎么知道那条路呢？”（5节）耶稣并未消除多马的疑问，向他解释将带他们往何处去。祂只是向门徒保证，祂就是那条道路。其实这样就够了。

我们对未来也有很多疑问。没有人知道接下来会发生什么事，因为生活充满各种我们无法预见的转折。但这些都没关系。只要知道耶稣就是“道路、真理、生命”（6节），这样就够了。

耶稣知道未来将会如何。祂只要我们紧紧跟随祂。

天父，求祢帮助我们看见，祢的爱子便是我们的道路，让我们在人生的旅途中紧紧跟随祂。
