Hey!
Can anyone tell me a bit about their experiences with the Pianobox Mini (MidiTech). I have read about it and the lack of delay and no need for a computer, suit me. Does it work well with DM48?

works well without latency, but have the ancient midi sounds, for practice if you're  travelling or haven't a pc it's good (for me). Supose it's better with a tablet or an iphone. Perhaps i'll get the zynthian http://zynthian.org/#section-home   http://blog.zynthian.org/index.php/2015/11/22/building-a-zynthian-box/  and i'll tell here...

Thanks for your reply! A few days ago I bought a "Piano Box Mini" and my experiences matched yours. I connected the sound from my PBm to the Korg Pandora mini (http://www.korg.com/us/products/effects/pandoramini/page_2.php) and got really good audio especially with sound 16, 19, 21, 56, 71 and some more. But if you are going to perform on stage the sound maybe not be enough. The most important thing for me right now is to be able to practice without disturbing anyone. No latency, that is really good, and I often use tongue blocking, which means many tones at the same time, no problem with PBm.

It will be interesting to hear about the zynthian quality. //Hans

Hans are you a tongue blocker? please can you answer me the question nobody answer me here at the moment? Can you play tongue blocking for example in hole 4 and without let playing that note, unblock the tongue playing 1st 3 holes? I can't do in my pc (ubuntu studio, linux), but also i can't do in the Piano Box mini, do you can?
Also if i'm playing octaves and i failed one note can't correct if i continue playing the other, i have to stop and play again...  thanks

Now I have been training for two weeks with DM48 and get really comfortable with the harmonica. All combinations of tongue blocking I do actually work really well. Playing octaves is absolutely no problem, one reason is that the Pianobox mini has no latency. It is also important to adjust Sensitivty, Response and Solo Assist =Off.  Of course, it does happen that any tone does not start but in my case it is about training more. This harmonica is an incredible addition to me, will probably use it at the next performance.

Agustin - it sounds as if you might have Solo Assist switched on? Otherwise there should in principle be no problem with tongue blocking or octaves.

However, in single channel mode, it is still bound to be more difficult than on a regular harmonica due to the fact that all notes will be played at the same intensity (MIDI CC data is not transmitted individually for each hole). So some slight leakage when trying to play octaves (for example) might give you one more note that plays just as load as your two main “target notes”. You do loose a lot of convenience with multichannel though, as typically you need to set up several tracks on the receiving end, each with a separate software instrument - so not as easy to change patches etc.

But nice to hear it’s working fine even without multichannel Hans (I assume you’re playing a single channel with your Pianobox).

Does the Pianobox Mini give good breath expression soft to loud etc? I thought those had to be programmed into patches specially set up for wind controllers.

Would love to hear some music you're playing with the Pianobox Mini.

Choosing Clarinet, Pan Flute, Trumpet and so on sounds good enough for exercise! You get good breath expression and soft to loud are also acceptable. Next week I can give you some sound examples, I'm not at home at the moment. It's very convenient to just bring PBmini and a tiny Korg Pandora to get better sound, while traveling. I use headphones then I can play in any hotel room.

Hey! Here comes the promised audio file!
It's not perfect but good enough to hear how the PianoBox mini and DM48 work together. First, it is "76 Blown Whistle" and then "71 Clarinet". It is recorded with my cell phone and I only use PianoBox mini connected to my amplifier "Roland Cube 80XL" and of course DM48. The song is called "Afton på Solvik", a traditional Swedish accordion song written by Andrew Walter. It's surprising how well it works, despite just one midi channel.

I have one too, but i find it to be a bit buggy.  Sometimes it will randomly assign a different instrument sound to a particular harmonica hole.  Kind of jarring when your four blow sounds like a tuba when everything else sounds like a flute!  I've tried fiddling with midi channel settings to no avail.

Have you made sure MIDI CC # on the DM48 is set to 11? If you already tried this, 7 (channel volume) often works as a last resort (not optimal as e.g. reverb will also be affected - but still far preferable to having no breath control at all).

I have no experience with this module - this is just some general tips.

Also the Pianobox does not appear to respond to breath velocity.   Every note is the same volume no matter how hard or soft you blow.

Hey! I read about your problems and maybe the following can help you. If you have MIDI channel Multich 1-4 for example, then there will be several instruments that you described. I am using MIDI CC # on the DM48 set to 11 but I tried 2 and 7 after reading your text. I saved the setting (eg 2) under Global preset and restarted. It does not work better than 11. MIDI CC # on the DM48 set to 11 is the best choice but as I wrote before the audio quality is just for practice.
I have tested a few different computer programs and stuck to MixCraft 8 pro. It's very easy to use but I do not think I'm satisfied before I tried something like Yamaha VL70. But (Erik) Yamaha VL70 is monophonic synth, so I can not play multiple tones at the same time. Do you have any other suggestions?
