I bought a DM48X in February 2024. In the past few days there was a message saying the battery was low and needed charging. I plugged it in for more than 12 hours and the red light still hadn't gone out, so I restarted it, holding down the slider button. The message still said the battery was low.
Does this mean the battery needs replacing? If so, are there replacement batteries and is it something I can do myself? I am mildly handy, having replaced a reed in one of my diatonic harmonicas and swapping out the stock diatonic combs for Zajac combs in several.

Thank you,
—John

Hi John,

Are you sure you have set the backside switch in the “charge” position? It should be toward the flash symbol.

The reason that charging can be turned off is that many people use the dm48x together with iPads and iPhones. These can provide enough power for the actual instrument via USB, but not enough for charging. So without the ability to disable charging, it would not be possible to connect the dm48x to an iPad or iPhone at all.

A regular iPhone charger should however easily supply enough charge current.

I suspect this is the problem? The battery should last much longer than that, should be fine for many years even with regular battery use.

Thank you Erik and Rudy for the help. Silly me, seems I misunderstood the battery charging directions. It was a simple fix of having the back switch switched to the left. Thought I'd tried switching it both ways, but oh well. The battery charged in a couple of hours, the red light went off and it's good to go! Glad it was an easy fix.
