Are you sure you have set the backside switch in the “charge” position? It should be toward the flash symbol.
The reason that charging can be turned off is that many people use the dm48x together with iPads and iPhones. These can provide enough power for the actual instrument via USB, but not enough for charging. So without the ability to disable charging, it would not be possible to connect the dm48x to an iPad or iPhone at all.
A regular iPhone charger should however easily supply enough charge current.
I suspect this is the problem? The battery should last much longer than that, should be fine for many years even with regular battery use.
