Dm-cache will use writes to store data in the flash and impact the
longevity of the device. This is unavoidable and dm-cache currently
does not have any optimization for longevity.

If you want to accelrate your old computer (and you have enogh ram), you can use dm-cache with zram.
It's easy to setup: you can use your ram as a cache frontend to your CF card.

Everything on CF card will be cached on zram, and using dm-cache in writeback mode it can leverage continuous writes to the card.
Writeback mode is a little fragile: you have no garantees in case of power failure or accidental remove of the card

I'm using this solution for my home partition and it seems to work fine.
