To those looking to get back into shape and would like to lose some unwanted weight, please join me and a few others for a weekly bike ride in the Bay Area. Open to ALL ages, male and female, mountain or road bike.

Venue: We will ride alternately, every other week in the Peninsula (Sawyer Camp trail or Cañada Rd, San Mateo) and East Bay (Lake Chabot, Castro Valley).

Time: Meet at 9 AM, roll at 9:30 (Weather permitting)-Every Saturday.

Understandably, there will be folks biking for the first time in years, so we will try and accommodate everyone by going in groups (depending on the number of participants). Distance will vary. This is not a RACE or a fashion show, our goal here is to get everyone moving towards a goal (better fitness). The first few sessions, we will limit the bike ride on paved roads. Once everyone has picked up the pace and has gained enough strength, FOR MOUNTAIN BIKERS, we will move up to some relatively flat dirt paths, FOR ROAD BIKERS we will move up to longer steeper climbs. Pace is according to your strength – WE WILL NOT LEAVE ANYONE BEHIND!

Let me know, if you need help getting your bikes serviced or looking to purchase one. Make sure that you dress accordingly bring a helmet, water bottle, sun screen, and that you and your bikes are road worthy.

To the experienced bikers, I need your help getting everyone excited in getting back into shape. Message me if you can spare your time and volunteer. Yes, Round is a shape too, but...

Consult your doctor before participating. We don’t want to spend all morning breaking down 😊

I’m sure there a lot of us that just need a little push.  We should start when it is still fun and not when we are forced to do so due to illness or medical condition.

Thinking of rescheduling next Saturday due to RAIN in the forecast. 

 As for getting a bike, what type of riding would you be most comfortable doing?  Road bikes or even hybrid bikes are used on paved roads primarily, while mtn bikes can go on both road and dirt.  There are pros and cons of course, but best to list your primary use. (Just for exercise, for commuting, leisure?)

Once you narrowed it down, get the right size and browse online or contact your local bike shops (I’m a strong believer in supporting local shops, whenever possible).  Lots of bargains on Craigslist for a starter bike too.
