Fusionsgennembrud - loves endda 3 r fr tid:

15 October 2014, Lockheed announces breakthrough on nuclear fusion energy:
http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2014/oct/15/lockheed-breakthrough-nuclear-fusion-energy
Citat: "...
Lockheed Martin Corp said on Wednesday it had made a technological
breakthrough in developing a power source based on nuclear fusion, and
the first reactors, small enough to fit on the back of a truck, could be
ready for use in a decade.
...
Ultra-dense deuterium, an isotope of hydrogen, is found in the earths
oceans, and tritium is made from natural lithium deposits. It said
future reactors could use a different fuel and eliminate radioactive
waste completely.
...
Lockheed said it had shown it could complete a design, build and test it
in as little as a year, which should produce an operational reactor in
10 years, McGuire said. A small reactor could power a US navy warship,
and eliminate the need for other fuel sources that pose logistical
challenges.

Oct 15, 2014, Skunk Works Reveals Compact Fusion Reactor Details
Lockheed Martin aims to develop compact reactor prototype in five years,
production unit in 10:
http://aviationweek.com/technology/skunk-works-reveals-compact-fusion-reactor-details
Citat: "...
The CFR will avoid these issues by tackling plasma confinement in a
radically different way. Instead of constraining the plasma within
tubular rings, a series of superconducting coils will generate a new
magnetic-field geometry in which the plasma is held within the broader
confines of the entire reaction chamber. Superconducting magnets within
the coils will generate a magnetic field around the outer border of the
chamber. So for us, instead of a bike tire expanding into air, we have
something more like a tube that expands into an ever-stronger wall,
McGuire says. The system is therefore regulated by a self-tuning
feedback mechanism, whereby the farther out the plasma goes, the
stronger the magnetic field pushes back to contain it. The CFR is
expected to have a beta limit ratio of one. We should be able to go to
100% or beyond, he adds.
...
Preliminary simulations and experimental results have been very
promising and positive, McGuire says. The latest is a magnetized ion
confinement experiment, and preliminary measurements show the behavior
looks like it is working correctly. We are starting with the plasma
confinement, and thats where we are putting most of our effort. One of
the reasons we are becoming more vocal with our project is that we are
building up our team as we start to tackle the other big problems. We
need help and we want other people involved. Its a global enterprise,
and we are happy to be leaders in it.

reactor:

Citat: "...
"Our compact fusion concept combines several alternative magnetic
confinement approaches, taking the best parts of each, and offers a 90
per cent size reduction over previous concepts," program leader Tom
McGuire said.
...
Lockheed, which holds several patents for the compact fusion reactor,
said it could design, build and test the first reactor in less than a year.
