Australia's former world champion Rodney Eyles became the first seed to
crash
out of the first round of the $170,000 Al-Ahram Men's World Open in Cairo
when he was beaten 15/9 13/15 15/8 15/13 by Egypt's 20-year-old Amr Shabana
in 55 minutes. Canada's 14th seed Graham Ryding was also an unexpected
casualty, losing 12/15 15/10 11/15 15/9 15/8 to Pakistan's Shamsul Islam
Khan.

Canada's defending champion Jonathon Power, the top seed, was also
significantly tested by a Pakistani, but ultimately overcame the event's
oldest competitor, 32year-old Zarak Jahan Khan, 15/9 15/14 9/15 17/14 in 66
minutes.
