US and South Korea fire 4 missiles in response to yesterday's North
Korean launch — one of which hits South Korean military base
Yesterday, North Korea launched a missile reached at least the coast of
Japan. In response to it, the US and South Korea fired 4 missiles
toward the Sea of Japan. But something went wrong, and instead of
demonstrating "the allies' ability to respond to Pyongyang's
provocations," one of the shells hit a South Korean military base.
The base burst into flames, but no casualties were reported. Residents
of the nearby city of Gangneung in the northeast of the country saw a
bright flash and a strong rumble — the shell simply went off. The South
Korean Defense Ministry is now determining the cause of the accident.
