The only thing that separates us from God’s love is our own desires. It was misuse of our free will to begin with that separated us from Krishna.
Krishna is Supremely independent - He only depends on Himself. Since the soul is a minute fragment of Krishna, we have the same tendencies as God, but to a very minute degree. So just like Krishna we want to be independent.
The position of the soul is to be independent of Maya, and dependent on Krishna only, but in our diseased condition of bodily existence we want to be independent of God.
The desire to be independent of God is the thing that separates us from the love of God.
Now, the very thing that separates us from God - our material body and it’s attachment to family, culture etc. - can also be used as an instrument to re-unite us with Krishna’s love.
When we re-connect with Krishna’s love through the Hare Krishna mantra we become happy and satisfied. And when we connect with the body and its culture, we become miserable.
Use your body to serve Krishna, first and foremost by chanting Hare Krishna, you become joyful. When you use your body to serve your senses, family, society etc., you become miserable.
It’s a direct empiric fact. No faith is required to confirm this truth.
Krishna says:
My dear Arjuna, because you are never envious of Me, I shall impart to you this most confidential knowledge and realization, knowing which you shall be relieved of the miseries of material existence. (Bg. 9.1)
This knowledge is the king of education, the most secret of all secrets. It is the purest knowledge, and because it gives direct perception of the self by realization, it is the perfection of religion. It is everlasting, and it is joyfully performed. (Bg. 9.2)
