me is having trouble with the new outlook 5.0 so could anyone tell me what
the feature "flag" does ?

also if i tell it to "watch" a conversation, what does this mean?

and when i right click a newsgroup and press "catch up" what does this mean?

i have checked for all these in the help file but haven't been able to find
anything

Flag sets a little flag next to the message to flag it. <G> You can check
what you have displayed and change it via View | Columns.

Watch puts little eyeglass icons next to "watched" threads (aka
conversations).

Catch up makes OE think all the messages on a newsserver have already been
read, so it only downloads new messages subsequent from executing the
catchup.

Flag puts a flag in the Flag column for that message only.
Watch puts eyeglasses in the Watched column for that message and any
replies. It also colors the message in the message list and if there are
any unread watched messages it turns the name of the newsgroup to the same
color in the Folder List. The default color is red, but you can change it.

I find the flag useful because it is so easy to search for with
Ctrl-Shift-F,Alt-g. I use it to mark messages and conversations I want to
comment on or do research for. I use Watch as a sort of potential flag.

I read somewhere that a property of Watch Conversation is to download
messages if you are otherwise just downloading headers. (It doesn't seem to
do that for me.) Conversely, a property of Ignore Conversation is *not* to
download message bodies regardless of other settings. (That I know works.)

The flag and watch settings are most useful when their icons are
displayable. Right-click on a message list column header and use the
Columns... dialog to do that. Once these are active you can group flagged
or watched items by clicking on the respective column header. You can also
much more easily flag and watch messages then simply by clicking in the
appropriate column.

Another reason to have the Watched and Flagged columns visible is that you
can then sort by those columns, binging all messages with either the glasses
of the flag to the top. (or bottom if you prefer)
