While transmedia storytelling and multimedia adaptations are quintessential for many Japanese franchises, The Adventure of Dai is a fascinating case of a story being adapted from a video game, finding its own voice, and then coming back to finally become a major game in its own right. The quest for Dai to finally get this major new piece is, certainly, an adventure all its own.
Throughout the show, Dai and his party use spells with recognizable names like Zoom, Kaclang, and Sizzle in various situations. Something as simple as the familiar name of a spell brings a level of solidarity to Dai's adventure which gives fans the feeling that it's really part of the Dragon Quest universe.
Unlike other popular RPG franchises such as Final Fantasy which have changed their settings over the years to include more sci-fi, futuristic elements, the Dragon Quest series has remained largely consistent with its high fantasy setting. A world full of dragons, knights, kings, and queens has been the preferred setting for Dragon Quest since its inception, and Dai very much lives in such a world.
While this is a recurring technique that appears in many of the games in the series, unlike most other similarities between the games and the manga, the Gigagash ability was actually originally introduced in he adventures of Dai. From there, it was adapted into Dragon Quest 8 and has since appeared in all other mainline games, including various spin-offs.
You will be able to unlock this adventure after reaching Chapter 2 of Year 3 of the main story. You will also need to have the clubs unlocked, and your Dragon Club needs to be at rank 5 or higher. Upon meeting all these requirements, the adventure should become available.

Hyunckel appears as a boss in Chapter 5 of The Adventure of Dai event held in the game in December 2020, as well as a powerful enemy version after clearing Chapter 5, Episode 4. He attacks using skills such as Multislash and Falcon Slash and dons his Dark Armour once his HP drops below 70%. The player can also acquire both Hyunckel's Dark Armour Blade and his Dark Armour in order to dress like him. After completing Chapter 6 of the event quests, both him and Crocodine are able to join the player as companion characters.
He later appears wielding the Dark Armour Spear with its armour as Dark Armour Spear Hyunckel who is an S-rank member of the Hero family as part of the limited The Second Adventure of Dai event, where he can be recruited during the event's story. He will join the player in Chapter 2 Episode 2: The Landing of Sovereign Rock Castle of the event quests and he can be fully awakened by collecting Dark Armour Spear Hyunckel Crystals from clearing the Master of Darkness Against His Pupil stages on any level of difficulty. Dark Armour Spear Hyunckel also stars in his own Battle Road.
I used a the frame of a broken Sega Handheld and put in my own PCBs and a LD44780 display. I configured some custom characters, put in some piezzo sound and all together makes a nice Textadventure in a Nerdkit.
