Hey All,

I'm Jacob Burch and the Director of Technology at Mahalo (mahalo.com).
I've been putting the feelers out of getting a group going for the
django community in Los Angeles. In my research I stumbled upon this
group, which seemed to hit a great stride but eventually taper out. I
wanted to let you all know (those who are still listening) that we're
starting a new group which will host a monthly meet-up at our offices
in Santa Monica, probably on the third tuesday of every month. If
you're interesting in attending, joining or even presenting, please
feel free to email me at jacob [at] mahalo [dot] com.

The tentative meetup URL is http://www.meetup.com/ladjango/, although
some of the information is tentative to change while we get the kinks
worked out of the date.

Hope to see some of you there!

Best,
Jacob

Thanks for your message. We have not so much disbanded as gone into
hiding since we lost our previous meeting place. We occasionally meet
up at the Mink Lab in Pasadena, for coworking and such. However, we
have been in search of a new venue and host. I'm sure we'd be happy
to join forces.

I think joining up would be a great idea. BUT... I would still like to get together with the "core" group we've built so we can talk about projects we're working on, cook a good meal, and general nerdery.

This actually works well because our meetups, so far, have really been about webdev in general and perhaps not "django-y" enough for a django user group. I mean- I enjoy that, but LA definitely could use a real django oriented group.

Thanks,
~ Jeremy

Absolutely. I figured it may have been not-quite-a-disband, but
thought the group was large enough that I'd drop a line. If there's
anything you'd officially like to see covered in a more django-y
meetup (as Jeremy noted), do feel free to email me either at this (my
personal) address or my work address above.

I'd be willing to attend the meetings. I live litterally on the
eastern fringe of LA County so I've been interested in trying to
organize something more "central" but looks like you've got a good
head of steam. I did make it to the recent Python meetup in west LA so
I guess I can hack it. Maybe once things get big enough we can have an
Eastside faction. :) For me the most helpful thing is advance notice
and weeknights.

I'd be happy to present...

-Brian
