Hello Djangocon folk! I am wanting for something to do to help, but
not sure where to look.

I recently returned from the primary insanity in New Hampshire. While
there, I spoke with Eric Sterling of the Criminal Justice Policy
Foundation and Irina Alexander, who is the Chair of the Board of
Directors of Students for Sensible Drug Policy, about trying to
encourage various representatives of the Washington, DC non-profit
activist world to attend and see what our community and project are
about.

They seem interested for sure. I'm happy to continue to try to build
this bridge, but I'd like something more direct to do.

Who is currently organizing the sprint? Do we have a location? Can I
help plan and prepare for it?

Also, is sponsorship literature available? Is there a need for some
kind of cold-calling or outreach of any kind?

Feel free to RTFM me if there is a relevant M for these questions.

Talk to you all soon. :-)

Justin:

There is a team setting up the sprint and other local facilities, the group's archive should yield those details (or maybe they'll give you a holler here).

Plans area afoot to re-vamp the web site with updated information, but the real answer to your question is that at present we are not terribly organized at canvassing prospective sponsors.

To the broader question "is help required" I'd say definitely, yes, best thing to do its monitor this group and leap in with suggestions and/or offers of assistance.

You may not know that DjangoCon is actually a hybrid of a commercial conference (which is down to my evil insistence on the profit motive) and a community conference (where people like you add the definitive open source/Django flavor to make it authentic for those attending). So we are kind of feeling our way.

regards

Steve,

Yep I did know that. Despite your questionable, dubious, and
generally fishy intentions, I am very much willing and wanting to
help. ;-)

I'll stay in the loop. Keep me on speed dial in case you need
anything. Thanks for the quick reply.

Hello Justin -

I created a local django-con group for on the ground activities in DC.
There is overlap with this group, because we are working towards the same goal, so I suggest you watch both.
The local group is to keep some of the chatter on local stuff in a focused area.
