Hi all,
A few weeks ago I tweeted about DjangoCon coming to Austin, and the events organizer for Capital Factory reached out to me about coordinating/hosting some events at their space. Who's the best person to coordinate this with Capital Factory?

I'm also happy to represent DjangoCon if no one steps up. A little background on me - I'm the CTO of a startup here in Austin, roikoi.com (django drives one of our components). I'm also one of the original organizers for Texas Linux Fest, so I am quite familiar with all of the venues in Austin, including the Hilton, which was the location of the TXLF a couple of years ago.

Anyway, if anyone wants to talk to Capital Factory and organize some events, let me know and I'll put you in touch. Or if someone wants to anoint me this power, I'm also happy to do it.

Victor

Hey Victor,

If you are still interested feel free to contact me and we can discuss planning. We have enough of the upfront projects moving that we can start thinking about events and what now. Would Capital Factory make a good sprint location?

Regards,
Jeff

Hey Jeff,
Capital Factory hosts meetups and other public events all of the time. They should be able to host 20-30 people pretty easily, but it's probably best to run this idea by them to make sure it's inline with what they want to offer.

Another great place, for hosting events in general, is Atlassian's new Austin office. It's brand new (opened 2 weeks ago) and has amazing views of all of downtown Austin. They purpose built it so that there's a really nice space to host public events (they can hold 100+ easily). I know the GM and am certain they would be up for hosting a DjangoCon event.

Are you free to have a quick call/IRC/Hangouts chat this week to discuss details?

Victor

FWIW, Capital Factory would be a great location for sprints, but probably not during the week.  The event space is normally for members during the day.  I'm sure it's not out of the question, but would be something that would require some extra coordination.  All of the AWPUG organizers (not sure how many are lurking) are on good terms with CF and I'm sure one of them would be willing to discuss the idea.

Thanks for the info and I'll contact Victor off list to discuss.

For anyone else wondering what our sprint location doc looks like it's here in our planning repo: https://github.com/djangocon/djangocon-us-docs/blob/master/sprint-location-ideas.yml
