Django Admin Redesign

I am starting a project in which one of the requirements is to have a custom designed Admin panel. 

So my question is: Is it possible to redesign the Django Admin panel? Majority of the requirements are related to Front-end design? Is it a good idea to redesign the front-end or just create a new admin area from scratch?

I ask because the design of the admin panel is important. 

Just to put it out there, I am coming from Laravel World.

If I remember correctly you can define your own templates under the template directory

Yes, you can redesign how it looks like, but I am not sure about how much you can do.
