Hi Spike!

This is really great work, and I'd really like to make use of it for a
project I'm working on.

What's the current status of the project? I can see you posted in
January that you might be ready to make a new release, but the current
SVN hasn't been updated since then, and is broken in places.

I've been trying to work with it today, but I've not been able to get
any results. I'm new to Django, but I know a bit about Python, and
about Lucene (I've done a lot of work with Solr, although I've never
used PyLucene). I'd like to help out if I can, even if it's just with
documentation and things like that.

But first, I have to get it working!

Is anything going on with this at the moment?

Thanks!

Simon

Hi, Simon.

Most of all, I thank you for sending email to this very unpopular project :)

For user's request against Django 1.0.2 there was a final release at January 2009, but that was not committed to `trunk`, but to branches. You can check it in http://code.google.com/p/django-search-lucene/source/browse/#svn/branches/1.0.2 .

In 2009, I did not work for Django Lucene Search because of my new project of my company, but if you report a bug or new feature, I will welcome the every request :)

Thanks.

Hi again :)

Thanks so much for your reply.

I've checked out r164 from the svn branch, but I'm still having the
same problems. After going through the 'killme' example app, and
fixing a few small problems, I'm stuck with this:

AttributeError: type object 'doc' has no attribute 'objects_search'

It seem like indexes.py is never being invoked at all - is this
possible?

When I run the syncdb command, I don't get the 'Installing index...'
line, and the index files created by search_initialize_db are still 20
bytes...

I've read through all the documentation, including the pdf, but I
still can work out where it's going wrong. Can you see what I've done
wrong?

If you can help me to get this working I will be very grateful!

Thanks again for all your time,

Simon

Hi,

This looks like a promising project.
After installing pyLucene (using http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=593327)
with JCC
I dove into the Wiki and got stuck at the same point as Simon.

I use the latest svn release of Django and I've tried both the branch/
trunk in the DSL svn repo.
I might try downgrading Django to 1.0.2 later on, but if a fix could
be made for Django-SVN you'd really make my day.

Thanks,

I'm sorry to say I didn't. I ended up giving up on Django-lucene, and
using some really hackish techniques to get the bits of functionality I
was hoping a Lucene backend would provide.

I'd like to return to this issue, as I still feel that Django and Lucene
is a very powerful combination, and a Django-api which makes interacting
with Lucene completely transparent would be a great thing to have, but I
don't have a lot of time. I originally looked into this project as I
thought it might save me time.

I'd suggest you register your interest by posting to the GoogleGroup if
possible - the more people who express interest, encouragement and
support there, the more likely it is that someone with the requisite
skills will make the time to get it all working. For the foreseeable
future, however, it won't be me I'm afraid - too many other projects to
take another on.

Sorry I haven't got better news for you.

Take care,

Simon
