Where's the media?

I have 1.4.5 installed (using pip install) on a (new version) of a
site. Contrary to what we got with 1.0.7, and contrary to the on line
documentation, no "media" subdirectory gets installed (and the admin
doesn't work without it).

Is this a problem with the pypi package? Or should I be finding this
stuff separately? Is it in your repository? (Where can I do read
only check outs appropriate for the 1.4.5 release?)
