to Django Newsroom
Hi All,

Wanted to send out the obligatory thanks for joining message and want
to let you know how invaluable you are to this project. It doesn't
matter if you know Django or not, we need people from all facets of
the ecosystem for input to make software for journalists by
journalists. This software I'm referring to is a CMS, but I'm
starting to call it "multimedia publishing tools" since there are
interests in developing desktop applications that export web ready
material.

For me, django-newsroom started as the second generation product of
the News21 CMS originally called Mars. So to start we want to build a
CMS using Django and provide the existing Mars functionality into a
Django project. Improving on many aspects of the system.

In case you didn't read the about section, the project's official home
is:

http://code.google.com/p/django-newsroom/

And this is where source code and releases of the software will be
available as well as the official documentation/wiki for now. There
is also links to the knight proposal we have in their queue and the
original proposal rewrite graciously donated by Jeremy. Many thanks
to all for this input on the proposal, especially John and Jody.
Please feel free to invite anyone you think might be interested in
this project.

Much of the discussion on this list will be technical ... I'm hoping
even though many of you on the list don't do programming you are
technical enough to understand the "spec talk". One major part of
this project is building requirements and features for the various
components. This is where you come in as the target consumers/
journalists. Two components currently slated for building are videos
and slideshows.

Again, thanks for joining and I hope to get cracking and release
something soon.
