Hey Guys,
I have been running LFS for nearly a year on a rented server with a company called pingvps.com who have just gone under and my server has been shut down.

Can anyone recommend a good hosting company? Preferably one that deals with the sys-admin and security side and will just let me deploy the Djang LFS website to it.

Your help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance, Mark

Try linode.com

I use them for two servers and they are the best bang for the buck right now.

Hey Richard,
Thanks for the quick response.
I am not a sys admin by trade, so i would like to avoid having to
setup loads of stuff as i dont really know what i am doing, do you
have to do much to get LFS deployed with these guys?
Thanks again,
Mark

You should also check webfaction, I have been using their hosting services heavily.
Their technical support Team for python related hosting stuff is the best I've come across !

Check this article about hosting LFS in webfaction

Wow, great advice there Praj,

For others out there i will explain what my findings were ...

Webfaction looked really professional and good value, so i used their
webchat to talk to someone about what i needed and he reassured me
there and then they could do what i needed (Sorry to doubt your
advice!)
So i set up a new account and website (Using your affiliate prog, if
they dont have a record of me using it to join, let me know)
Followed the instructions above for LFS version 0.6.15 and boom - it
worked, LFS website up and running! :D
Not 100% sure what voodoo magic happened there, but if i can do it,
anyone can! :)

Now all i need to do is restore the db from a backup of my old site,
transfer templates, and i think thats it :)

Thanks for everyone's help and advice

Right, bed now :)
Mark

You are welcome Mark, you can also check their community forum for help and support. Everything is there.

2 Weeks back, I too followed the instructions here and installed LFS 0.7.2. :) It was a breeze !
I have played with many other hosting providers, they all suck ! (Except Heroku and Bitnami)

But with webfaction, I'm very impressed with their Python/Django Stack expertise. I have learnt a lot many things about hosting and configuring servers. :)

Hey Mark can we know your website?

Thanks again Prajwal, i will of course let you all know the website,
once i have refreshed the DB from my backup and also customised the
site again
... watch this space!

Can i ask, what is the difference between LFS version 0.6 and 0.7? And
which would you recommend using, bearing in mind i am upgrading from
0.5?

Thanks,
Mark :)

See:

I would recommend 0.7, of course.

Thanks for the advice :)

If i am following the instructions here (but installing 0.7)
https://gist.github.com/1406608, should i run the migrate command
after the syncdb and before lfs_init, or after the collectstatic
command?
Thanks again because this advice is helping loads! :D
