Adding categories to Tabs

Hi there,

i was wondering if there is any possibility (without much coding experience) in the lfs project to get the categories (including sub-categories) into the tabs-bar of the default lfstheme?

It would be very nice if the arbitrary view of the categories-portlet could be displayed in this bar. 
Are there any plans to make the tabs bar and the portlets work together? 

Otherwise maybe someone is so kind to provide me with a little codesnippet to get this thing done.

In my shop I manually added tabs that link to a small set of categories.
