Adding an extension filter that is based off request

Is this possible? I can't really decipher the spaghetti going on in the translation extension which would somehow have to be based on request. Is there any place I could look for more info on this?

I don't understand what you're trying to do. Can you explain in more detail what you're trying to achieve?
