Thoughts on the Open Source Hardware Definition, from a "bunnie"

For anyone who is familiar with the absolutely fascinating Linux-based
world of the incredibly hack-friendly Chumby and its ecosystem
( http://bit.ly/ceZYuc [Chumby] ) and now the newer Chumby device (oddly
named the Chumby One) the personage of Andrew Huang -- known popularly
as "bunnie" -- is inseparable from the Chumby design.  (Note, bunnie
has of late asked that the terms DIY-friendly or "mod" be used rather
than "hack" -- since mainstream consumers may only associate the word
hack with basement-dwelling criminals, not brilliant white-hat and
otherwise completely legit software and hardware engineers:
http://bit.ly/cEg92U [bunnie's blog] ).

Bunnie's thoughts on the recently released Open Source Hardware
Definition (0.3) and how it relates to open source software and
systems in general are well worth reading:

http://bit.ly/brUpDv  (bunnie's blog)

You just gotta love a character like this who actually made a contest
out of guessing how many PC board "vias" were present on a particular
version of a Chumby layout: http://bit.ly/avuQKI (bunnie's blog)

More fun than a barrel of 60/40 rosin core solder, for sure.
