As we sail around we often come across unadvertised boats for sale.  These boats are often the best deals out there and also the most like to be payment plan negotiable. also if some one you know posts it then you already have a friend there to go over it with you. A kind of thread for that could be really cool. Anyway here in green cove there are many deals from the dream boat 32 aris for 39k to the anarchist special 30 foot pearson wonderer for 39hundi with new motor, new sails, new batts, new stick steps, and old 8ft dyer sailing dink (like margarets).

That sounds like a great thread. I'm based in Rhode Island right now, looking for good deals on boats at the end of sailing season up here.  If anyone is in the region, let me know and I can post if I find anything good.  Whereabouts is green cove Tyler?

speaking of free boats, there' s a columbia 23 shoal draft sitting right beside me on a trailer. the trailer needs two new car tires and the boat needs some work (compression post for the mast) but it's sailed all around the georgia coast for years.
best part, it's free.
so if anyone wants the low down on a free boat in beautiful coastal georgia, send me an email. it's currently owned by a really awesome older sailor. but it's on a trailer, so you could take it anywhere, even RI.

green cove springs is in florida, south of jacksonville

There is also a freesailboat yahoo group.
groups.yahoo.com/group/freesailboats
Boats pop up all over the US, about once a week, and people are
posting to the group daily.

BTW, to add to that Columbia 23, I have three head sails for an Irwin
23 that have come into my possession, a hank on genoa, a hank on jib,
and a North sails spinnaker, so if anyone snags the Columbia, I am in
Stuart, South Florida and would be willing to give the sails to the
new owner, though the J measurement is a couple feet longer on the
Irwin, so they may need to have the foot shortened... or put a taller
mast on the columbia...

Also, cheap, but not free, and also not a sailboat. There is a Chris
Craft Constellation 42 (?) solid lovely wooden motorboat, hauled last
month with dual newish good running Mercruiser V8s. The boat is in
reasonably nice shape. They seem to sell for 10-25k in this shape,
though always up north where wooden boats stand a chance. The owner
wants 5k and can be talked down (so I am told), because they are too
old to continue and don't want it coming back to their dock. I saw
the bottom myself when it was hauled. They fixed some wormholes, but
other than that it was solid. I'd buy it myself for the re-sell, but
I am certain that owning two boats is a recipe for a total life
disaster.

Quickly, I'm curious if you're anchored near it?

Anchored near the Chris Craft? I'm (still!) hauled at the moment, but
the chris craft was parked at the dock around the corner in Port
Salerno, FL (aka: Manatee pocket). I'll check for you again today.
I'll see if I can take some pics too.

For those in the NY/NJ area. a bristol 22 for free. One of the few
22 footers with a "real" interior set up.

I just purchased an Ericson 23 (my first boat), although I really can't recommend the way I went about it.  I found it on Ebay for very, very cheap from a charity group called Boat Angel. I wasn't able to inspect it before buying, and it has not been surveyed, but I figured I could make the money back parting it out if it was a bust. Boat Angel gave me the contact info for the previous owner, so I was able to meet them and go through the entire boat. They took good care of it and and donated it because they are moving inland. It was sailed up until it was hauled out in November. Needs some wiring/electrical work and bottom paint and a few other small things (maybe an outboard [or a sculling oar]), but I'll be launching it this spring if it goes well.  I may have gotten lucky, but I'll wait til it's under sail to decide.

Congrats! Look forward to hearing how it turns out... I'm in route to California where I will be boat hunting over the coming months for something free or dirt cheap to fix up, hopefully with a friend or two. Will check in when I find something worth mentioning. Any leads greatly appreciated!

South Florida sounds really nice right now. The boats on the dry in Connecticut (I'm in RI) and will be until it gets warm enough to do the painting, etc. Hopefully in the water by March/April. If it goes well, I'll likely be galavanting south myself sometime in the summer/fall. Best of luck working on your vessels.
If anybody has clever plans for a folding/two-piece dinghy, I would be very interested.

Ken Simpson is the man for 2 piece cheap kit boats:

Duet looks like what you want?:

Toter2 has some clever ideas:

The removable sponsons.
You could add that concept to the Duet for even more stability.

I have to say Dartron, the ones we have seen capsize very easily. The
only rescues we have done in our anchorage have been for the folding
dinghy...we had two very scary experiences. Be careful. Thanks
