>From the May 4, 2007 edition of The New York Times:

"So there have been hack-and-slash action games that let you play
Gandalf as he swings his sword and staff at some orcs. There have been
strategy games that let you play an imaginary general, moving armies
of elves and goblins about. But few have dared even try to make a game
nearly as sprawling in imagination as the books themselves, a game
that lets you create your own character and explore freely through a
credible re-creation of Middle-earth. None have succeeded.

Until now. Last week Turbine Inc. opened The Lord of the Rings Online:
Shadows of Angmar, a hugely-multiplayer game that brilliantly melds
fun gameplay with a plausible imagining of part of Tolkien's world. It
is a major achievement of interactive storytelling, the first game
truly worthy of the "Lord of the Rings" franchise and a must-play for
just about anyone with an interest in Tolkien or the future of online
entertainment."
