After some sweet rainbow light leaks overlays? This pack has your back. It comes with four types: Orange and Purple, Fast Golden, Royal Blue, and Are You Nuts (which is basically a bit of everything).

Light leaks are also a great way to spice up motion graphic work. Instead of simply having a stagnant background, you can add a light leak to your scene to create rich movement.

The image above is simply one of the light leaks included in the free pack (Blue Orb Transition 2, to be specific) with a slight hue change and the blending mode set to Screen. It looks good, but we could take it one step further by adding an adjustment layer.

As you can see, if the adjustment layer uses a duplicate of the light leak as a luma mask, you can get some very interesting results if you add in various effects. In our example above, we used a quick gaussian blur to make it seem like the areas in which the light leaks hit were actually messing with the sharpness of the footage. This technique can make your light leaks seem more natural. For the example above, our composition in After Effects ended up looking like this:

Have you ever seen the defects in old photography cameras where the light could somehow leak into the normally light-tight chamber and expose the film with extra light, spontaneously creating a magnificent effect?

Select the light leak video file on the timeline and look to the Effect Controls panel and under the Opacity settings choose to set the blend mode of this light leak to Screen. This will drop away all the black in the video clip and just leave us with a light leak overlay. Perfect!

Once you have the leak in place, scrub the play head over the completed effect and right-click on the light leak clip and choose Speed/Duration to adjust the speed of the clip if you need it to be faster/slower and also use the regular selection tool to move the clip a few frames back and forth on your timeline to figure out where the effect looks best. TIP: This effect tends to look best when you can align a bright flash in the light leak with the exact moment that the clip switches over.

Light Leaks is a collection of 100% real light elements that will enhance your videos with beautiful light effects. It is a quick way to add a dream or romantic look to your creations, give your projects vintage feeling, create cool transitions between shots, make dynamic slideshows.

Subtle and organic light leaks (often referred to as film burns) designed to be used in any video editing software that supports Composite or Blend mode. Simply place the desired light leak on top of your footage and set its blending mode to Screen or Add. Adjust the amount of light by lowering the clip or track opacity.

You can also customize the speed of the effect, add some color grading, change luminance or color by adding Levels, Color Balance or Hue/Saturation filters. You can combine various light leaks together, rotate and scale them for achieving the desired effect.

Using light leaks to color grade your film can be a fantastic way to give your footage a dynamic, custom look. It's compatible with every video editing suite you've ever worked with (Premiere, Final Cut, Avid, etc.). Simply import them in and layer them on to add that extra depth.

One unconventional way to utilize light leaks is to use them as a luma mask to reveal a clip. This can be an interesting way to transition between two clips. The best way to do this is to use After Effects, but you could hypothetically use Final Cut Pro, Premiere, or Media Composer to pull off the same technique.

The best place to find professional light leaks is the Illuminate pack from RocketStock.com. Illuminate includes 120 4K light leaks that can be dropped into any video project. Unlike other packs on the market, Illuminate comes with different styles of light leaks. The pack is broken up into two categories: ambience and transitions. The light leaks are also broken up into three styles: Modern, Vintage, and Sci-Fi, each with their own unique look.

I'm currently experimenting for the 1st time with the Rocketstock light leaks in Avid, which I use otherwise only in Premiere.

With BCC Composite in blend mode SCREEN it's going in the right direction. But the picture gets much brighter as soon as the black of the light leak starts (which should be completely transparent)...

How do you work with these kinds of light leaks in Avid?

When used well, a touch of film grain and a well placed light leak can really perfect a look. When used badly it can be carelessly sloshed all over your edit, leaving every transition relying on a blur of bright light.

Light leaks are a sought-after visual effect frequently applied to photos, film, and video projects. They create a vintage, retro or illusory look that adds color and tone to your footage. If you want to create the effects with ordinary cameras, it requires a very advanced technique. This technique involves harnessing the power of beautiful light, natural features and stylish overlays to create vibrant images. But you can learn the tricks of the trade that have rapidly become the most sought-after cinematic technique for professionals and hobbyists.

For hobbyists and beginners learning how to create light leaks for the first time, you can use flashlights, spotlights and softboxes to create the effect. The key is to point the camera at the light source and fill your frame entirely with the light. While you can achieve a light effect with the sun, most professionals do not recommend using natural light as your light source. You would have to remove your lens with a manual camera or film camera and cause damage inside the camera. However, if done correctly, you can get a white screen and record it after removing your lens and positioning your camera on a tripod facing the natural light.

If you want to enrich your recorded footage, you can do this in post-production by adding some light leak overlays to your video editing. You can drag and drop overlays directly onto your footage in post-production. With video editing software, you can manage the hues and length of the effect. Light leak overlays offer a very amenable array of effects. Websites, like Rocketstock, offer free 4K templates that can add vintage, retro and stylization tips to enhance the effect. In addition to websites offering free template downloads, editing software like Premiere Pro and After Effects can spice up your footage in a matter of seconds.

In addition to Premiere and After Effects, you can add light leak effects in Photoshop with overlays that are pretty simple to apply. Photoshop can even create the effect for you. One of the easiest ways to add light leak effects to your photographs or video is to use free online editors.

Camera phones, such as iPhones, have image editing apps used by professional photographers to create a wide range of light leak effects. Whether through your phone or computer, you can dress up your images with different types of effects and have fun doing it.

In the past, photographers and videographers tried to avoid light leaks at all costs. The breach of light into their camera would ruin their film. However, over time, they have become a favorite visual to firmly produce a temperate and textured look and can add a touch of nostalgia to your footage.

The Light Leaks Dissolve filter creates a stylized pattern of bright lighting elements overlaid on the source footage which automatically animates in intensity as your transition progresses to obscure the underlying dissolve between clips. The lighting elements simulate the look of light leaking through the gaps in a camera and partially exposing the film/sensor. The BCC Light Leaks Dissolve transition builds its pattern of leaks by layering up to four separate leak generators on top of each other with additional controls over the scaling, intensity, and apply mode of the combined leak elements.

Exposure: Increases or Decreases the overall light exposure of the leak by modifying the intensity of the combined leak map. Exposure affects both the opacity and the color brightness.

Use Source Alpha: Controls whether or not the filter retains the original alpha channel of the clip. When enabled, the original alpha channel is preserved. When disabled, the leak map will tend to expand the alpha in regions where the leaks are present.

Create up to four separately generated light leak maps, each with independent controls over all properties, which are then composited into a single combined light leak map before being applied over the source clip. The controls in each generator group are the same, but they may have different settings by default.

Threshold: Controls the cutoff intensity between which regions of the generator map are transparent and which contribute to the light regions. Higher values yield more dense, intensely colored leak maps.

If you want additional professional light leaks, check out the Light Glow Pack, which includes 28 4K organic light elements. These are production-ready assets made for your commercial or personal projects.

Thank you so much, they look very nice ?
I have a question: if I understand well I cannot use some of these leaks in an after effects photo gallery and then sell the gallery on videohive or similar sites, am I correct?

Traditionally, light leaks happen when a roll of a film is exposed to light. Such a situation occurs when there is not enough light protection in the camera. Light leaks tend to be orange or red because of this exposure.

These days photographers and videographers turn his bad thing into an esthetic advantage. But high quality light leaks are not digitally produced effects. They are shot in-camera to get that organic look, which cannot be imitated too easily.
