Teleparty is a free Google Chrome-exclusive extension that's simple to set up and can support groups of up to 50 people in text-only chat (though that number is somewhat dependent on how strained the service's servers are). Plus, in addition to Netflix, Teleparty also works with Hulu, Disney+, and HBO Max. The only catch is that everyone needs a Netflix account (or whichever other streaming service) of their own.
Discord stands alone on this list because it's the only option that's not technically built specifically for a watch party-like experience. It's a chat app not unlike Slack that started out primarily as a go-to destination for PC gamers craving a free option for hosting voice chat parties without having to rely on those features being built into individual games.
After hitting "Install Netflix Party" on the above link's homepage, you'll be redirected to the Chrome Web Store. Click "Add to Chrome" to officially finish downloading the extension. Then go to Netflix and select any show or movie you'd like to watch. After, hit the "NP" icon that should now be on your address bar. Hit "Start Party" to kick off your joint viewing, and share the specific party URL to the people you want invited.
If you're the invitee, click the party link your friend sent you. You'll be redirected to Netflix's website, at which point you'll hit the "NP" button next to your address bar. This should automatically add you to the Netflix Party. A TikTok user made a full tutorial on how to do this if you'd like a visual:
If you're missing movie nights and TV marathons with friends, break out that one-person cheese plate and get ready for the next best thing. A free Google Chrome extension called Netflix Party allows users to watch Netflix in sync with each other on their computers, wherever they are. The extension also comes with a chat room where you and your party can talk. It's an easy way to practice social distancing without losing out on the fun of a good group watch.
1) To install, go to netflixparty.com and click the "Install Netflix Party" button. This will redirect to the Chrome Web Store, where you can click "Add to Chrome" and then "Add extension" in the pop-up window.
4) To create your viewing party, click the red "NP" icon in the top right corner of Chrome, next to the address bar. Then click "Start Party" to get the party started, and share the party URL to invite friends.
5) To join a party, you or anyone in your watch party can click the party URL, which will redirect to Netflix's website. Then click on the "NP" button next to the address bar, and you should automatically join the party.
The Netflix Party extension on the Google Chrome browser lets users watch Netflix shows and movies at the same time while talking to each other in a chat room. As the description suggests, it's a way to have a watch party or "Netflix and chill" from two different couches.
The extension allows users to stream movies and TV shows together with their friends on the OTT platform. It currently works for Google Chrome browsers on desktop and laptop devices. Netflix party allows anyone who joins the party to pause, play, fast forward and rewind the movies, so everyone is always on the same time frame. It also allows members of the group to chat and discuss a movie or a show that they are watching together in a side chat bar.
- They can then share the party URL generated to invite friends. Other users can join in on the group streaming through the URL by clicking on the "NP" button next to the address bar in their Netflix account.
Streaming parties are not exclusive to Netflix. Chrome extension YouTube party lets users simultaneously watch videos on YouTube. Another extension called Metastream also works for YouTube as well as Hulu and has a text chat feature similar to Netflix Party. TwoSeven allows users to watch YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, or HBO Now while video chatting with their friends.
Spread Netflix. All your friends invited to the party will be asked to access from their own Netflix accounts. So before you pick the movie, run a quick poll to make sure everyone is subscribed. Remember that an active Netflix membership can be shared across six devices but only two simultaneous streams are allowed.
Think about what your ideal Netflix watching party would look like if all your friends showed up at your house. Number one: huge screen; number two: popcorn. Not necessarily in that order. Guess what, you can nail this real-life experience with a quick popcorn delivery and JustStream. JustStream is an all-mighty video streaming app for Mac. Popcorn, well, you know what popcorn is.

Even though a third-party developed it, the website has come clean about end-to-end encryption, allowing people to trust it even before asking.
They claim not to store your password, delete watch history, and promise not to sell it.

Netflix Party has gotten a facelift and a name change: Teleparty. With its new features and other streaming services integrated within, you can still watch all the cringey reality TV shows you got hooked on with your family during quarantine -- even if you've since moved away.
The premise is simple: One member of the watch party acts as the host by playing a show or movie and using the Teleparty browser extension to retrieve a shareable link. Everyone who clicks on that link will then be transported into a virtual streaming room. There's even a chat feature so you can feel like you're still watching in the same room as your Survivor superfan brother.
Currently, the extension works only on laptop and desktop computers. If you have an HDMI converter, however, you can connect your laptop to your TV. As of right now, the extension is not compatible with iOS and Android devices, but Teleparty says that an update will come soon.
You'll first want to download the Teleparty extension from your internet browser's add-ons store. Note that Safari does not support the service, so you'll have to resort to an alternative. For Chrome users, you can install the extension from the Google Chrome store. For Microsoft Edge, visit the Edge Web Store. Opera users, click here.
Pinning the extension to your browser makes Teleparty easier to find and quicker to access. On Chrome, click the puzzle piece icon/toggle on the top right corner of your browser. Edge users should look for the star icon. Then pin the extension to the top by clicking the pin or star icon.
Now grant your browser permission to change the data on the websites you visit. This sounds way scarier than it actually is. You can read about Teleparty's Privacy Policy here, but basically, you're granting the extension access to your streaming services so that it can create a synchronous video playback and chatting experience across all participants.
Finally, you are ready to invite people to the streaming party. Pause the video and click on the pinned Teleparty extension. You will see a prompt that says Create a Teleparty, with the option to give yourself host control (meaning no one else in the room can play and pause the video), and a Start the party button.
Teleparty is currently available in every country in which Netflix is available. Keep in mind, however, that different countries have access to a different variety of shows and movies. So you may not be able to stream the same TV show as a friend from abroad.
