Sorry these weren't posted yesterday like I had promised. Didn't get
finished with work to 2:30am.
Anyways, the notes were kind of disorganized due to the discussion
jumping around so I'll try to make these as coherent as possible.
Meeting Notes-9/29/10
1. Everyone gave their contact info. I don't think most people want
their info posted up on the internet. I will email everyone the
contact list individually.
2. Mission Statement/Manifesto-See other thread for discussion about
this. We decided that solidifying our mission statement will be the
goal of the next meeting. We decided that we our ultimate goal is
become a legit space to have the stability that many of the house
spaces in Chicago do not have.
3. Organization
A. We will be designating moderators for each meeting and will
make them more orderly in the future (no interrupting, following the
agenda, etc.). Ramsey will be the moderator for the next meeting on
the 13th.
B. Decision making should be consensus, but we discussed majority
vote for certain issues or ones that a consensus can not be reached
on.
C. Roles need to be defined and duties need to be delegated.
4. Fundraising events-Everyone should bring ideas to the next meeting
so we can start planning an event as soon as the mission is
accomplished. Some ideas put forth were dinners and shows that were
food drives. We talked about not doing strictly punk shows to not get
pigeonholed as a punk space.
5. Everyone should contact other collective spaces for info and advice
and bring any info they get to the meetings or post to the group.
6. We talked about organizing the contacts we have to the current
spaces in Chicago to help organizing events easier. If anybody has
space contact info or is the contact person for a space themselves,
please email me this info personally. I will organize this info so it
can be accessed by the group. I would also maybe like to create a
separate database for bands, artists and other resources that we will
need. I just need to figure out a secure way for us to access this.
7. Other ideas for the space were to subsidize it with band practice
space or to work with existing groups or spaces.
8. We talked a little bit about the legal and financial issues of
starting this space, such as zoning, incorporation, 501c3 nonprofit
status, and obtaining grants. I have done some research on this
already, so I will try to compile everything and post it to the group
this weekend.
I don't think I missed anything. Hope these notes are helpful to
everybody. I kinda had to summarize a lot.
See everybody at the next meeting.
Chris
