Clearing out space for lab bench at Hive

Dan is going to start clearing out the space next to the sever this Thursday Aug 28. I'm going to be there to help clear it out so we can setup a larger area for DIYbio. Preferably if we can get the entire isle that would be a great start, I'm already bringing in a lab bench, and it would be great if we could get a decent sanitized space cleared out.

Ok so I figured out what the blackbox is:

It's an enclosure to generate short and long wave UV. It's interesting that we would have one since it's primary purpose is to make rocks glow. Is there a use for it in bio as a germicide or fluorescence exciter? Or any other purpose - otherwise I'm gonna try to scrap it or give away.

3 of the uses for UV lights in bio:
1. Keep surfaces sterile, it is common to leave a UV light on in a sterile culture hood when not in use.
2. Visualize DNA bands in a gel, most DNA stains are excited by UV.
3. Visualize bacteria/yeast/etc that have a UV-excitable fluorescent protein.

I say keep it, though it may end up being more useful to pull the lights than keep the whole box.

Be aware of safety, short wave UV can burn skin and eyes quickly.

As far as the space goes, the table and shelf are now in place., we have the majority of the aisle now for DIYbio setup.
