Hi, I read about that creatures living in Japan where they are eaten and sold. (So they surely are not a protected species)

Does anyone know, if they can be bred in a (big) aquarium? And is there a place where to buy them (alive!!)?

Best,

Squid are really hard to keep and tend to have short lifespans (from what I hear of the Hawaiian bobtail squid).  You need  a huge tank with flowing water from what I remember...It would be cool though!

Squid are really hard to keep

So that would be a challenge but not an obstacle. ;)

Well if it would be really possible to keep the creatures as pets, I would get such a giant aquarium.

Or build one, the glass plates can't be that expensive. And I know how to handle Silicone adhesive/glue.

Yeah, AFAIK the female squid dies when giving birth to children. That's also why they can't build civilisations though being so intelligent, as the males are away after fertilization, so they have nobody to build knowledge on  :D
