A few of us at the Hive13 Hackerspace in Cincinnati, OH are interested in getting into DIYBio.   We are holding a first meetup Tuesday Aug 5 to talk about space for projects, ideas, funding, etc.   Eventually we'd like an actual bio hackerspace--the USA midwest is really lacking!

It will be at Hive13, 8:00PM (after the Hive13 weekly update meeting).  All are welcome.
Address:  2929 Spring Grove Ave, Cincinnati, OH 45225

I realize this is an international forum, sorry for spamming everyone...if any of the experienced people here have advice for us getting started, it would be gratefully accepted!

Cheers,
Mike

We're thinking about having a few cool projects as a demo to show off - which I'm gonna be working with some of the other interested parties to get up over the next week or two.

First Meeting / Callout moved to Tuesday, Aug 19th.
I also attached fliers for people who want them.

Hi, my name is Temiloluwa. I am a student at the University of Cincinnati, in Biomedical Engineering. I am interested in the group.  When and where do you meet?

Hi Temiloluwa!

We meet at Hive13 hackerspace, 2929 Spring Grove Ave.  Usually there are a few of us bio-interested folks hanging around after the weekly Hive13 meeting at 7:30 on Tuesdays (open to the public).  We've  had a few official bio meetups but nothing currently scheduled.    At this point, there is a dedicated "bio-corner" with a few pieces of equipment.  We are still mostly in the planning and equipping stage, rather than doing projects.

Hi All, good luck. One piece of advice that really helped with both Counter Culture Labs and Berkeley Biolabs was setting up a meetup group focused on DIYBio and biotech. It'll help you grow out your fledgling community.

In addition, I'd also recommend checking out Genspace's resources page which has some great information to help get a fledgling group up and running. There are also some great articles in Biocoder on building a DIYBio lab.

Good luck!
Ryan
