If someone has an 8-tube strip of 0.2mL PCR tubes and a set of
calipers handy, would you be so kind as to measure the length of the
strip for me? Distance between tubes would also be super rad.

Thanks,

Length is 71mm. Are you looking for the distance between the tips of
the tubes or between the cylindrical parts tubes or between the caps?

Between the cylinders, at whatever depth one would normally insert
them into the block of a thermocycler. Thanks!

Hey Meredith, what cool gadget are you making now? Below is probably
more info than you wanted to know... the strip is just 8-wells of the
96-well ANSI standard.

ANSI/SBS 1-2004: Footprint Dimensions
ANSI/SBS 2-2004: Height Dimensions
ANSI/SBS 3-2004: Bottom Outside Flange Dimensions
ANSI/SBS 4-2004: Well Positions

The PCR tube manufacturers have compatibility charts in their
datasheets, for which PCR tubes fit in which thermocyclers. You know
what that means... no standardization in many circumstances.

Norman, this is fantastic, thank you very much. This is exactly the
sort of dimensional information that has been going into skdb. Now
armed with an ANSI standard, I can go model up parametric pipette
tips, throw in some CAD files, and see where that takes us. Do you
have any other aces up your sleeves? Maybe other ANSI or ISO standards
for lab equipment?

I'm measuring 2.80mm on some strips and 2.89mm on others. And this is
the distance between the cylindrical part of the tubes, just below the
lip.
