Really cool.  Could be a $$$ saver.  Email me if you want a copy of the PDF.

Yo dude,

Interesting stuff from Karmella including how to reuse qiagen colums.  Cheers!

Hey Kim,

1. Attached is the publication about regenerating Qiagen columns. Also, here is a link to the protocol I wrote for Davidson College:
http://www.bio.davidson.edu/courses/Molbio/Protocols/QIAQuick_recycle.html

2. Below is a reference for a paper about running gels at crazy-high voltages (I cant seem to access the paper online). It worked for me at Washington University, but not at Davidson. I think perhaps a circulating gel box is required (had one at WashU, not at Davidson)...

Ultra-fast high-resolution agarose electrophoresis of DNA and RNA using low-molarity conductive media.
Brody JR, Calhoun ES, Gallmeier E, Creavalle TD, Kern SE.
Biotechniques. 2004 Oct;37(4):598, 600, 602

3. Here’s a Davidson web page link to info about capillary gel electrophoresis: http://www.bio.davidson.edu/courses/genomics/method/Capillary.html

I hope this is helpful.

Best,
---Karmella

Karmella,

This is just a quick follow up mail to ask about the protocols to use miniprep columns up to 10 times.  I was also wondering if you could send me a reference regarding the DNA capillary sequencing/PCR.  I'll put the idea to my mates and see what they can come up with.  Cheers!

Kim

On a related note, the Pearl Gel Box now includes a free sample of Faster Better Media buffer (made by the guys from the "Ultra-fast high-resolution agarose electrophoresis of DNA and RNA using low-molarity conductive media" publication) in a limited supply of orders. It runs much cooler at voltages that would normally melt a gel. It also cuts down on fogging of the lid.
