Here is a project and build instructions for a functional PCR machine, for a parts-cost of around $10. It currently uses an Arduino, but a microcontroller version is coming soon and that should only cost about $5 in parts.

I could not find how you load the triangle path with a sample, or how one cleans it out, etc.

Those can be big drawbacks of the triangle path convection machine from Texas A&M.
If they were doing a run of millions of plastic triangle vials to be sterile and disposable
it might go well.
