So I have all the parts for two machines, I'm just curious to see how they work really. Anywho instructions on building the machines seems to be poor  (but I can figure it out) and code appears to be non existent. HAs anyone built these before? or would anyone be interested in helping with regards to the coding side?

I will share everything I learn, post photo's etc.

Ciao

Hi,

We have one we work on that is the modified version of the Hacketeria one, on Thursday nights at BioCurious and another that two members of the Thursday group built on a modified PrintrBot Simple platform.  The coding side has been our  big challenge, getting two syringe pumps to work together.  What questions did you have?

Maria

Hi maria,

I am just looking for some simple code to operate the entire device...you mention syringes? have you tried printing with the inkshield print head's? and if so what code is required to drive those?

thanks,

Jemma

By 'two syringe pumps working together' what do you mean?  Pumping concurrently or turning one pump on and the other one off?  Marlin supports multiple extruders on Repraps out of the box, so there's no reason this should be a sticking point...

Hi Jemma,

I've attached the code we used to print the "I <3 BioCurious" lines. Or rather a previous version that still reads "I <3 Inkshield", since the BioCurious version was on a laptop that got stolen.

As you can tell, it's simply the InkShield demo program, with some simple stepper motor controls added to it. Frankly, we've put minimal effort into writing software for the inkshield based platform, because most people wanted to work on the hardware instead, and we've moved away from using an inkjet cartridge since then.

We want to have at least two syringe pumps - ideally 3 or more - extruding *simultaneously*, which is not something Marlin supports out of the box. So some of the people in the group have been editing the Marlin code to support simultaneous extrusion.

3D printers with multiple extruders typically switch back and forth between extruders. A couple people have done simultaneous extrusion on 3D printers before, e.g. to print out two copies of the same model. It's basically a matter of combining the right electronics, firmware, and G-code generator.
