What city you in? Knowing this someone on this list could point you to a local space.
There should /could be a local hackerspace and possibly a diybio group too.

I'm in Washington State, the northern half,  I did some research on diy groups in seattle and found that they broke up last year.  I was kind of hoping that there was maybe some remnants of the group but i have been unsuccessful.  I found that eBay is a great supplier but it is really inefficient.
