Hey guys,
I'm trying to find sources for other colored fluorescent protein plasmids. My company was denied access to addgene so I wont have any way to get some already built fluorotagged plasmids and snap together my own. I would ideally want just the fp,amp, and lacZ so I could express it with IPTG. Anyone on the list have spare non-green colors? Thanks!

You might check out

Also, what kind of forms and requirements did you have to fill out or meet to be a part of Addgene?  Did they list a specific reason you were denied?

Now that I have a job finally and access to some money I'm going to start dumping more funds into projects.  I think the idea of crowd sourcing funds to get a gene/plasmid constructed (if only from DIYbio list) would be a cool idea, and we each get a few micro grams etc for initial transformation and should be able to mini-prep the plasmid into existence at higher quantities.

They said I don't meet the requirements for the industry account. Im for profit so i wont be able to get the educational or institutional membership. A DIY Bio version of addgene would be awesome. We just have to set up some kind of MTA (material transfer agreement) so we wont get sued by the owners if its a commercially sold product and to promise we wont try to sell it...unless we make our own versions and open source it into the public domain like pOpenTaq. So many damn strings... :(

Just found a great article on all the fluorescent proteins and their relative brightness as well as how they were made. Enjoy.

Sorry for the denial :(
I have always thought of creating a DIYbio deposit that went with the biobrick standard assembly. I am creating a mini plasmid that will conform with biobrick standards that I plan on opening up, in addition to creating that halobacterium plasmid. If I was in charge, I had thought of a system where all us DIY biologists share all the plasmids, so there would be one resource but also a bunch of backups. If anyone needed a part, then they would simply ask for it and one of the "distributors" (like you or me) would send it to them for a small charge, perhaps a 3rd of the charge of addgene, 20 bucks.

If you want a GFP plasmid with lacZ and amp I am planning to build one in the next few weeks so I could send it to you if needed :)     (Gibson Assembly practice)

Im looking for other colors but with the same lacZ system. Im running a bacterial painting workshop and want new colors for the students. I also want them, being sculpture students, to practice their sculptural expression using agar and glowing bacteria in 3D i.e. agar molds with fp bacteria. These kids are very talented and interested in the concept of bio art as a whole so I want to expand their possibilities.
