What would I need to successfully find matching alleles or protein codes within two strains of DNA?  Would I need a centrifuge, and a PCR machine?  What are the tools I need to be looking at?  As well as some good books to devour on the topic.  A million thanks!

Pipettes for sure! Then depending what are you looking for and how big is your template dna there are different approaches. Are you looking for gene into bacteria, plants or humans? If you can be more specific I can be very happy to explain you what should be the best approach.

Best,

Could you tell a bit more detail about  what you wanna do?
Do you want to make something like a paternity test?

You probably would send the two DNA fragments you want to investigate to a sequencing company and read them for 7,50€ (1000 bp).

If you tell where you are from, maybe there is someone near you which has experience. Or even a community lab.
