Hi All,

Just wondering if any of our fellow Biohackers had suggestions on cool projects we could do to develop some fun and novel therapeutics with 3 Robotic Tecans?

At the moment we're thinking about doing some plasmid preps but we know there are lots and lots of cool things we could do and also share with the community, we're particularly thinking of cool open source projects (with 20-30 people involved and hopefully doing some hard science)?

All the best,
Ryan

Once I am done fixing some DNA I have, I want to do a bunch of mutations and assay for useful mutations (can be tested colormetrically).  Robots might be helpful.

Hi Avery,

Great idea, we're potentially getting ready for a DIY Bio team for iGem (Counter Culture Labs and Berkeley Biolabs), which would be cool but I like your idea of trying out different mutants!

If you want to partner up with us let me know and we can set up some time to talk about a cool open source project and how we'd plan it out!

You could do bugfixes for Jonathan's Robotics::Tecan module. You know, if you get excited by perl, that is...

Aren't those machines really expensive? Like, > $100 00 when new? And will you really need /be able to use the full capacity of three machines? What about selling one of them and use the money to buy some other kind of useful equipment? The marginal utility of going from two to three identical robots surely can't be that great, compared to what other things you might buy for its value?

Uh, that should have been, $100 000.

They're probably 100K new, 1K used.

I just bought a restaurant dishwasher for $20 that cost $2200 new
ten years ago. It's all greasy on the outside. That's why
businesses buy new equipment some times...
It costs as much to hire cleanup work done as new manufacturing.
