Hi Everyone,

I created a short survey on if you would own GMO pets like the Glofish.  I was curious to know how many people are willing to own them and if so what type of pet.

Here is the survey:

Thanks

eu regulations prevent the owning of glowfish, otherwise I would fill out the survey

The survey question asks 'if they were legal'

I'll fill out. The minute we get approval for GMMs in Forma Labs (Cork
Biomakerspace) I'm gonna see can we get a permit to import Glowfish
specially for the biomakerspace. I'm fairly sure the company breeding
them would be happy to see some across the pond, right? :)

As far as I know, glofish is quite common in EU, black market of course.

I have seen it twice in the market without searching for it (but I am a fish
keeper, so I visit such places regularly, often including the facilities not
open to the general public).

So I think the survey is relevant to EU as well, but may be it should
be taken anonymously :) (or it should be declared if it is so already).

Maybe confused them with the problematic dye injected fish.
Would be highly surprised if glofish were anywhere but labs.

No no, I can tell what I am looking at. (I study ichthyology btw)
In one case, the fish were immediately fed to some large cichlids.
"Its just food", the owner did not trust me enough :)

and dye injecting is commonly performed on Parambassis
or various albino specimens, I have never seen it on a zebrafish.

I wouldn't think it is anything organized or so :) Just people like to keep interesting things.

Non GMO illegal trade with wild animals/pets (CITES species, banned putative invasive species and so on) is also common and I would say way more organized/commercial.

Well since you ask - it's been over half a decade since the glowing monkey paper came out - starting to think they're our generation's "flying cars".

Will the results of this survey be published? I'm curious to see what GM pets people want.

It would also be interesting to see what non-GM pets the same people want, as a control - e.g. would GM make a difference to what pets people own? I'd definitely like a glowing rodent, but otherwise I wouldn't really have a pet.

yes, especially gmo to fix issues caused by years of inbreeding on purebred pets, or to fix issues, like say dander protein productions in cats, to create hypoallergenic cats.

Sure, I will definitely publish the results.  I would like to see a little more participation before I do.  As of now I have 15 responses.

It would be great to blend yorkie or other hypoallergenic coats into other breeds.
