Hi everyone,

I know there are many people here interested in life forms that glow and their relevant genes.  Here's a new source for such genetic material:

Very nice! Now we just need to find out if they are edible and if they keep their "glow" even after "departing" :-).

Fascinating: in the last picture you can see that their light organ is a branching, symmetrical arrangement. Perhaps they've adapted salivary glands as host organs for luminescent bugs?

Question is, what frequency are the symbiotes emitting, and are the bugs modulating it GFP-in-aquoria style or is it really Green? Because if it's actually green, I've not heard of a bacterial luminescence system in that band before. Fireflies are yellow, so it's a bit higher energy than them, right? Unlikely to be recently homologous (hence me assuming bacteria)?
