I've been looking for second-hand lab hardware and have finally found an eWaste company that I can do business with. They have tons of equipment and I'm looking to start going over it and testing hardware to see what works and what doesn't. Centrifuges, microscopes, and the like I get; but when I get into analyzers and spectrometers I'll be having trouble figuring out testing protocols to ensure the hardware still functions (reliably). I'm looking for a good discussion list specifically for lab equipment testing, and maybe getting some help sorting out what might and might not be useful for a small scale diy bio lab.

Thanks

There are lists like that, but always brand specific, very little general, except
for http://www.repairfaq.org/, but it helps to know some engineering:
sci.electronics.repair sci.electronics.design

I met a man who refurbs spectrometers in Canada...

Hi Ryan;

Who is the eWaste company.  I’ve never even heard of one.

Thanks;

It's an EU thing

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waste_Electrical_and_Electronic_Equipment_Directive

Dead electronics have to be recycled rather than landfilled as of 2007.

There are plenty of classic recyclers in the US that put gear on ebay as a higher paying route
than disassembly in some cases. Not for some 70's HP gear with gold plated PCBs though!
They are all going the way of old gold low carat jewelry these days.
