http://marblar.com/2012/03/dna-click-ligation/

- tech substitutes the intraDNA phosphodiester ligation site for an artificial nitrogen rich linkage
- potential to change DNA&RNA backbone as can use non-enzymes to join strands
- applications include synthesis of large biologically active RNA molecules or cyclic mini DNA duplexes as decoys for transcription factors or other enzymes

They are offering a prize pool of 2,500 pounds for ideas for the novel market use of such a technique

Petridish.org is a new Web platform that empowers users to explore the world around them by participating in funding scientific research projects. Not unlike the well-known Kickstarter, the project owners set a minimum amount of dollars that need to be pledged for the project to happen, and a deadline to achieve that goal. Researchers can also offer intangibles such as being regularly informed of progress, or even having a new species named after them!

And yet another competition which require some hard thinking

Boehringer Ingelheim is sponsoring a 3 month chemoinformatics competition to predict the biological response to molecules based on their chemical properties. Each row in the data set represents a molecule. Participants are predicting the biological response based on the molecule’s size, shape, elemental constitution and many more features.

Deadline Friday 15 June
Prize $20,000  enough to buy a few test tubes

Anyone interested contact me for joint team entry
