Haven't seen it on any lists or anything but I'm wondering if there are any groups or any individuals that are in the Pittsburgh, pa area? I was disappointed to not see anything on any of the lists but I'm not giving up hope that I'm not alone!

I'm an extreme novice to the field and trying to find a way to start fiddling around. I was hoping there would be a diy bio hackerspace around but have had no luck locating such a place. Hoping a local may know of something?

Thanks!
Alex

I'm from pgh and delinquentme was from westmoreland county, but he moved out west recently. There's the hackerspace hackPgh over off of second ave in the hill district, but I last visited them a few years ago and they had no bio/science going on.

I wish I could help more, maybe delinquentme knows some folks.

Thanks for the help! I haven't been to hackpgh but I never got the impression they had any bio space or anything. I had seen someone from CMU post about a DIYBio Pgh group's first meeting in 2011 but nothing since. I emailed her but haven't heard back yet.

Anyone else?

Rich posts on here once in a while, and had posted something about a
pgh meetup in 2009. Maybe he knows some more interested folks:

I've heard that HackPGH has interests in setting up a bio space and there's at least one grad student, Stacy K, who'se been doing stuff around here for a while.
I run a museum of Penn Ave. called the Center for PostNatural History (www.postnatural.org) that encompasses everything from domestication to synthetic biology.
I hosted a few diybio meetings in the past, but don't have time to do that part anymore.
I am however happy to be a destination for curious folks and to host occassional events, screenings, etc. if anyone is interested.
