Subject: [london-hack-space] Biohacking talk
To: London Hackspace <london-h...@googlegroups.com>

Hi folks,

I came along to the hackspace for the first time two Tuesdays ago
(really impressive!) and got chatting to Jonti about biohacking;
apparently there isn't much going on in the group now, but there are a
few people in the group interested in learning more about it?

I work as a molecular biology researcher, specifically viral gene
therapy. I'm not involved in the biohacking community, but I'm pretty
well placed to give a crash course in molecular biology to anyone
who's interested in dipping their toes in.

Jonti suggested that I offer to give a talk, so here I am :). My
tentative idea is to spend an evening giving a crash course in (i)
Basic concepts of molecular biology [DNA, protein synthesis, cloning,
etc] (ii) Tools, reagents and techniques necessary to get a basic
workbench running (iii) Background to a handful of current projects in
professional research and in the amateur biohacking community. If
nothing else, that should give anyone interested an idea of what's
necessary to get a community lab running and give some inspiration or
direction to new project ideas.

If you might be interested in this and/or want to suggest different
foci for a biology talk, let me know and we'll sort something out!

Have fun,
Bugs
