As before, I'm BCCing a few people not on the diybio-ireland mailing
list. Given the more local and mission-focused nature of all this
thought, I think a new mailing list is in order..right after we agree
upon a name! ;)
So, forwarded below is the minutes kept by John at the meetup last night
in the Porterhouse/Woolshed; thanks to everyone for coming. We ten had a
great time and covered a lot of ground.
As discussed, Bill and I had a meeting today with representatives of the
City Council to discuss the use of the Grattan House location. If you've
not yet seen it, here's a link to streetview; it's the single-storey
building with grassy frontage:

The council were very warm, and quickly agreed to give us the use of the
building on a provisional basis; the advantage being that there is no
red tape in arranging access, and the disadvantage (though slight) being
that in theory it's not guaranteed when the probationary period lapses.
We received several clear guarantees to this effect, and permission to
say as much to others and to begin pursuing monetary support on that basis.
Our hosts were very positive about the project, and I think they are
eager to see progress; all that must now be done is to provide them with
a legal entity with which to form an agreement; we're already on it!
Next steps, if I may:
1) Seek funding proactively; local companies are probably best first-start.
2) Decide on a name; candidates right now are "brú na Beatha" and
"Forma", respectively "House of Life" and "Bench". The former is cool,
but as Bill points out it's poorly memorable for non-Irish and hard to
guess the spelling of. The latter mirrors "La Paillasse", is
phonetically consistent between languages, but it's not as "cool". Other
name suggestions welcome. Check domain availability when suggesting names.
3) Register everything in that name.
4) Get the word out and find people who want to join but don't know it
yet. :)
