Some words to those who found this group through surfing the net:
This group has been created to make more accessible and searchable our
audio experiences. We are a small group of enthusiastic people who
share a common interest in listening to, modifying, and building
enjoyable audio systems.
There are numerous products on the market today, and it is almost a
black art in itself to put together a system that will sound according
to one's wishes. You do not have to take anything granted, as there is
no company that can design to the taste and hearing of each of us. You
cannot buy speakers that are optimized to YOUR room.
There are too many factors that influence sound quality, and optimal
result is achieved by customizing: modifying what you have. This can be
as simple as adding a different stand to your speakers, or as complex
and challenging as building your whole system - from music source to
speakers - from scratch.
This is an active, eventful journey, that is based on sharing ideas. If
I keep an idea to myself, in the best case I can make some money out of
it. On the other hand, when I share it with my fellow DIY'ers, we stand
a chance to achieve something together that would be way out of the
reach of a lone experimenter.
DIY is about experimenting, trying out new ideas, and most importantly
to keep friendship alive. We do not strive for the "best" sound, as it
is different for every one of us; we dare to try out common and unusual
ideas, and see how do they work, what effect they have. If you are
interested in DIY, challenges, hard work and dumb luck, new and old
ideas in audio, please, read on.
