Are other club leaders having parents sign liability waivers? How does that work? Do we need them? We're going to be doing a woodworking project soon and I want to make sure I'm covered. Thanks!

During the first year of our library based maker club our projects mainly used general tools and supplies (duct tape, cardboard, etc.). Now that we are beginning to explore more advanced projects, we are working on a safety plan and a liability waiver. I would recommend it for woodworking. Another thing we have started doing is requiring those under 10 (still a bit young to work independently) to have an adult stay at the event with them.

We created a liability waiver and photo/video release form that we require participants to sign for any of our maker space programs at our library. I'm attaching our form in case you'd like to see what we have. It's based off the Young Makers Club liability waiver form.
